And this Thursday it’s time again for the monthly Balkan Rave! This time we’re having Noam on the accordion again and we’ll be joined by Jerusalem’s up-and-coming mid-east DJ Ur-Sun-Of-The-Nations which will also play darbukas. Don’t miss it! Thursday at Hakatze, Jerusalem.

Boogie Balagan free show in Jerusalem

This Sunday (which is already tomorrow, 21/6) the Parisian duo Boogie Balagan will be preforming live and free at the Bass club (Histadrut st. 1) in Jerusalem. How come? The French Culture Institute arranged an evening for the French “music holiday”. Boogie are scheduled to take the stage around 22:30 and before them will preform other groups, some Israeli and some French.

Boogie Balagan are two Israeli-born musicians who play an impossible blend of middle-eastern-delta-blues spiced with lyrics that jumps around between English, French, Arabic and Hebrew. Raw groovy energies. Here’s a clip for the song that opens their excellent debut album and carries the same name like the album, “Lamentation Walloo” from 2007.

Omar Souleyman

Check out Ghetto Bassquake’s excellent post about Syria’s Omar Souleyman. Highly recommended for anyone with even the smallest interest in Arab music.
